Wildstride, the event kit

Wildstride is a theme for an event company running trail race weekends. You can click round the demo, which is a made-up company with a full calendar.

The kit is three parts. RaceDay Model holds the data, RaceDay Features draws it, and the Wildstride theme decides how it looks. The two plugins don’t change between sites; to make it yours, you change the theme.

One page per race weekend

Each event is one edition of one weekend, say the 2026 running, and it carries the whole life of the race:

• Before: dates, location, a tagline, total climb, capacity, and the entry link.
• The races: for each distance, the name, the distance and true distance, gain, loss and highest point, a technical grade from 1 to 5, a start note, a terrain note, the GPX, links to the map, and the kit list.
• After: once you switch on the aftermath, starters and finishers, the weather on the day, links to the results (a PDF, a spreadsheet or the timing company’s site), a gallery, videos and a quote. Results are linked, not re-typed into tables.

What visitors get

• A race finder at /races/, filtering by terrain, country and continent
• Bookmarks, saved in the visitor’s own browser, no account needed
• A “next up” strip for the home page: the next start date, the range of distances, and how many weekends are still open
• Light and dark mode, following the visitor’s device until they pick one with the toggle

It’s ten blocks in all, so you can build pages from them in the block editor.

What you need

• WordPress 6.5 or later, on PHP 8.0 or later
• An ACF Pro licence. The event fields are ACF Pro field groups, and the kit won’t work with the free version. Buy it from advancedcustomfields.com before you start.

Making it look like yours

Every colour goes through a set of named tokens, each with a light and a dark value. Change the tokens and the skin stylesheet, and leave the class names alone: the plugins rely on them. Two scripts check the result. One measures 40 text and background pairs against WCAG AA in both modes; the other confirms every class the plugins emit has a style. The Wildstride skin passes both.
